Why does clascoterone work for acne and not minoxidil since they are both anti-androgens?

I've got a question here about classicodarone, which is a new topical medication that's coming out that's actually been approved for acne and has completed trials for use in male pattern hair loss. And the question is, why does minoxidil not work for acne and closcorone does? And the question was around those medications, both being antiandrogens. Well, the first issue is that minoxidil is not an antiandrogen. Minoxidil is actually in its own class. It's nothing to do with hormones. It just happens to prolong the antigen phase. We think that it has to do with potassium, inhibition of receptors in the follicle. And so there's no antiandrogen effect from minoxidil. So it's a totally different class from classcodorone. So it would not make sense for minoxidil to work in its current form. It is typically a little bit of an irritat to the skin, so we don't typically have patients apply it to their face or if they do very sparingly to eyebrows in patients with alopecia of the eyebrows, potentially a few times a week. So we wouldn't want to try to think about using minoxidil for acne because that would not be a good use of that medication.
