What is topical roflumilast?

Topical reformlest is a new treatment for psoriasis just approved. I was the principal investigator at the trials, which were done at Mount Sinai and other sites around the country. And it's exciting for us because it's a non steroid, so it can be used anywhere on the body without worrying about steroid side effects. It also doesn't have some of the side effects of other drugs that are approved for psoriasis but are irritating. For example, calcipotrine, which is a very effective treatment for psoriasis, but when used on the face or groin or flexural areas, can be irritating. Same with tazaritine. So we now have a drug that is not irritating on those sites and gives you a potency effect that at eight weeks is similar to a potent topical steroid.
