Do you tell your patients to stop their biologic if they test positive for COVID?

You? Well, that's a really timely question right now because we're all certainly hearing from our patients that more and more people are testing positive. What we tell most of our patients is that if they are on an anti tnf drug, they should absolutely hold their next injection until they no longer have a fever and until they're feeling better. But for most of my patients who are on aisle 17 or IL 23 drugs, what we really talk about is there's no increased risk for serious infection looking at the medications. And unfortunately, that's important to talk to them about because in most cases, it's just not going to line up such that they have a new injection to do right away once they've tested positive. Of course, if they've tested positive and they're due for an injection, I usually recommend that they hold their injection until they no longer have a fever, until they're feeling better. But unfortunately, it just typically doesn't line up that way. And I usually reassure them that in the clinical trial data, those drugs have not shown any significant increased risk for serious infections in those patients.
